Chance Folle
by Nathalie Farman-Farma
For the 'Chance Folle' collection, Nathalie Farman-Farma created an imaginary folk scarf inspired by the four-leave clover, which she then deconstructed and recomposed into several tessellations, playing with the different elements of the design as they remixed on the table.
The idea was to reinvent the much-loved clover motif, while emphasising the links between the artisanal manufacture of her textile, and Gien earthenware. This pattern, with its cheerful colours reminiscent of the fichus of yesteryear, and its central clover motif, invites cheerfulness and optimism.
About the designer: Nathalie Farman-Farma
Born to a French father and an American mother, Nathalie Farman-Farma grew up in France before dividing her time between New York and London. With multiple degrees, she first worked in cultural journalism at The New Yorker and Charlie Rose. She then moved to London, where she set up a textile company and design studio, Décors Barbares, where the folkloric traditions of Eastern European fabrics blend with those of the Silk Road.
Her work is distinguished by in-depth historical research and exceptional colouristic quality. She draws on the elegance and rigour of French know-how to create a joyful universe, rich in influences, both nostalgic and refined. Nathalie Farman-Farma loces romantic settings, as easily inspired by nature as by fairy tales. What's important is that objects and motifs blend harmoniously and that the common thread remains personal and almost secret. Her love of the decorative arts and French craftsmanship naturally led her to collaborate with Gien.
